Hi – Julien here!
It’s been a busy week at the guide, preparing for the video series.
I’m usually behind the camera, so I’m a bit nervous being on screen.
But, “I gotta do what I gotta do.”
I created a test video and shared it on my Facebook profile. You can check it out below.
Today, I thought, would be an excellent time to start thinking about setting up our gardens.
So, in this issue, we’re going to look at:
🌿 7 Tips For Finding the Perfect Spot for Your Garden
Don’t worry! Choosing an ideal spot for your garden is easy and fun. Let’s dive in!
1. Ensure Easy Access
To begin, think of areas around your yard that are easy to reach. You’ll want to visit your garden often to water, weed, and check on your plants.
If it’s too far or hard to get to, you might forget about it.
2. Look For Sunny Areas
Next, walk around your yard and observe which areas receive at least 6 hours of sun during the day. Remember, plants love sunshine and need enough light to grow strong and healthy.
But don’t worry if the area gets less… Partially shaded areas come in handy when the sun gets really hot.
3. Avoid Windy Areas
Strong winds can harm your plants. So, find a spot that is protected from the wind.
You can look for areas near fences, walls, or hedges that can act like wind breakers, keeping your plants safe and sound.
4. Have Access to Water
Choose a spot close to a water source, such as a hose or a rain barrel. This will make it easy to water your garden without too much effort.
Trust me, two-gallon watering cans feel increasingly heavy over long distances, especially up hills.
5. Check the Drainage
If you’re planting in pots, ensure the area has good drainage to remove the excess water.
After a rain, check to see if water drains well in your chosen spot. If possible, avoid wooden floors unless you intend to seal them properly.
6. Don’t Overcrowd The Space
Ensure your chosen spot has enough space for all the plants you want to grow. Remember, plants need room to spread out and grow without competing for light.
7. It’s Ok To Start Small
You can always expand your garden later. Beginning with a small space makes it easier to manage and learn what works best.
Remember, gardening is a journey. So ensure that you take lots of pictures. And share in our:

This is my first time growing Jack Beans, so I didn’t expect the flowers to be this pretty. I’m looking forward to tasting the beans next.
